
The tablet making business just got a lot more interesting with the entry of BlackBerry, the makers of the Blackberry smartphone. Apple's iPad has almost had the market to itself, with sales looking to go over 50 million by the end of 2012. Blackberry used it's annual developers' conference to announce its tablet for the market, set grow to $40bn in the next 12 months.
The BlackBerry PlayBook, is aimed at the business user as well as for recreation is set to be the main rival to the iPad. The BlackBerry PlayBook will have a 7-inch screen, 2 cameras but will not use the latest Blackberry operating system OS7, but another recently acquired technology. BlackBerry Smartphone users will be able to tether to the BlackBerry PlayBook, but BlackBerry say the BlackBerry Playbook isn't a phone and there was no word during the launch about battery power, a key problem area for Smart devices. While the BlackBerry PlayBook is smaller than the Apple iPad which is bigger at 9.7 inches, BlackBerry are looking to the BlackBerry PlayBook to grab some market share, especially amongst business users.
